Up Close with the Wild: Critter Connections Brings Adventure to ARCC

On March 11, ARCC had the pleasure of welcoming Critter Connections to our Community Participation Support (CPS) program for a truly special and engaging animal experience.

The visit created a calm yet exciting atmosphere as individuals gathered with curiosity and anticipation. Participants were able to safely interact with a variety of fascinating animals while learning about their unique characteristics, habitats, and behaviors. The experience encouraged gentle exploration, social interaction, and confidence-building in a supportive environment.

One of the most memorable moments of the day came when the presenter surprised everyone by bringing out a huge python. The room filled with shock, laughter, and amazement as individuals bravely stepped forward to observe and, for some, even touch the snake. It was a powerful moment that highlighted courage, trust, and the willingness to try something new.

In addition to the python, participants also enjoyed meeting box turtles, a friendly bunny, a larger skink, and several bearded dragons. Each animal brought a new sense of wonder and sparked meaningful conversations among peers and staff. These hands-on interactions supported sensory engagement and provided opportunities for individuals to practice communication and social skills in a natural and enjoyable way.

At ARCC, we believe that learning experiences should be both enriching and memorable. Visits like this help promote independence, community inclusion, and personal growth while creating joyful moments that individuals can be proud of.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to Critter Connections for bringing such a thoughtful, educational, and fun experience to our program. We look forward to welcoming them again in the future.
